I'm in Illustration: Drawing and Painting this semester with a Mr. Stephen Alcorn. Everyone in the department knows that this is supposed to be the painting class but our professor wants us to focus on drawing. We have been working on the same project since the beginning of the semester (this is basically unheard of in school, it seems). Our project was to take something we liked, that spoke to us in some way... but it had to be a piece of literature or a song or something along those lines. I REALLY wanted to do a song, but he wanted me to do Elizabeth and Darcy. So here are some sketches of what I started with, where I went, and where I am now.

So I wasn't excited about this from the beginning. It IS my favourite book, but, I mean... no. I just wasn't all about it for an illustration. I also wanted to do something stylized. Something that *I* wanted to do for once, you know?

But I kept going and tried to work things out....

Didn't last. I finally put my foot down and chose "Skeleton Key" by Margot and the Nuclear So and So's to illustrate.

and onward go trying to figure out everything I want to incorporate. From the horns that show her partner's infidelity, to the pears that show the carnal desires he fell to.

we had a class to go outside and draw... but Franklin Street's just too pretty in the fall.

He thought that the pears should be more stylized. I'm not sure that I agree, but we'll see. I really liked this sketch, but he thought the other was better.

so I kept with it and this is the drawing I'm probably sticking with. I'll probably still try to rework the face.

but I'm trying to focus on colour at the moment. I'm doing watercolour with colored pencil... possibly ink (or ballpoint pen).

watercolourin' fool!

and don't worry, the face will DEFINITELY not look like this. Now that I don't love colours... I just don't want it for this project.
next post will be for Concept Class!
